What
is a contract? Your contract at
NM is an agreement negotiated between your union and NM Management.
Your contract cover topics of wages, benefits, and working conditions.
Enforcement of the articles of your contract comes from union members
and stewards. How
can I get a copy of my contract? Members can contact their steward , or contact the local union staff. New employees should also contact either their steward or local union staff about receiving a New Member Packet*. A copy of your contract may be available through NM's website According to your
contract, you have the right to receive a full explanation of any action
that affects you adversely This is the 1st step of the grievance
process. If you have a problem you are concerned about, contact
your steward or the local
union staff. Your steward will set up a meeting with your
manager to discuss the issues. At the meeting with your manager,
your steward is your advocate. He or she is there with you to make
sure your concerns are heard. The manager then has to respond
within 3 working days. After the initial step, the grievance is
reduced to writing and may be advanced to the Department Head, Grievance
Committee, or even arbitration. The grievance procedure has time
limitations for each step. Your steward is there to help you
through the process. My
points are lower than they were last year, but my manager told me I
performed at the same level this year that I did the last year.
What’s going on and what can I do if I disagree? Some employees
have been told that their points were lowered specifically to bring them
“more in line” with other employees doing similar work.
While some employees have not suffered a loss in money, lower
points may negatively impact their ability to receive promotions.
In addition, our contract guarantees that employees are to be
rated on their own performance, not the points their coworkers may have
received. If you feel that
you have been “adversely affected” by your managers action on your
review, your contract guarantees you the right to file a grievance over
that action. I
am scheduled to work a 37.5 hour work week.
Yet on my review, my manager held me to the same production
standards as employees who work 40 hour work weeks.
What can I do about that? Simply put, you
cannot be required to meet a production standard for hours you did not
work. If this happened to
you, please contact your union steward or call the union office at
262-790-0350. A list of
stewards is posted on this site. Click
here for the list.. By
signing my review, am I saying that I agree with the statement made on
it? NO.
Signing your review does not indicate that you necessarily agree
with the content on the review. By
signing your review, you are simply acknowledging that you have received
your review. If you
disagree with your review, you have the right to challenge it by filing
a grievance. You may also
want to write next to your name that you disagree with some of the
statements on your review
